David Hirst

David Hirst completed his BA in Music and Spanish Education at Illinois Wesleyan and a Master’s in Spanish American Literature from Illinois State University. In college he worked with the Illinois Farm Worker Ministry community organizing, editing and publishing a community newsletter “La Voz del Campo”. David taught Spanish in Lincoln, Illinois and in the Normal Unit 5 school system where he served as the head of the World Language Department at Normal West for 12 years. After completing his MA, he attained National Board Certification in World Languages other than English. He was awarded a Golden Apple Fellowship for his excellence in teaching. David has been active as a board member with Global Fest Illinois, and the Immigration Project where he served terms as Vice President, President and Secretary. He is active on the Fundraising/Community Outreach Committee. As a volunteer in the Immigration Project David worked to develop the Navigator, Know Your Rights, and Immigrant Allies Training programs. David served on the COVID19 United Way Task Force. He is a member of the Normal Rotary. He lives in Normal with his wife Marcia.

David is interested in the effort to control Malaria as a result of his studies and trips in Costa Rica. He serves the Board representing the Communications and Information Technology Team. He hopes to help get the word out about the need to give talents and money to controlling this nemesis to global well-being.
