Michael was born in London but spent his first few years in Buenos Aires, before returning to London and studying at the French Lycee. Throughout his life he has worked and travelled extensively, speaking English and French, he has two children and one stepchild and is married to Hélène Dufays. His degree is in the service industry, however he went into consultancy and then IT, working for Global organisations. In 1994 he started his own Software, Training and Global Consultancy company. Working for multinational companies and several UN Organisations. In 2004 he emigrated to France and started working for the World Health Organization. In 2008 he joined the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria where he saw the effects of Malaria on countries, their health services, their economies, communities and families, this is when he became passionate about eradicating Malaria. He started Gift Of A Life, a staff funded organization helping Lazarus effect children in Lesotho and sponsoring two students at University in Zambia. He retired in 2017 and became an active Rotarian with the Rotary Club Thonon Genevois International and is currently Vice-President and President Elect. Through Global Grants the club has projects in Bolivia, Brazil, Guinea-Conakry, Mali, Morocco and Nepal. He helped form the Partnership between the Global Fund and Rotary Australia World Community Service – Rotarians Against Malaria, which has led to a pledge of $12 million from RAWCS-RAM for Malaria projects in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Timor-Leste. This triggered a $25 million pledge from EMTIL a group of banking institutions for fighting malaria in the four target countries. It also triggered a 2 for 1 matching pledge of $24 million from Dfid for fighting Malaria globally.
