We will explain HOW

RAM-Global, the Rotary Action Group on Malaria, is taking Malaria work Rotary wide.

RAM-Global and partners projects have PROVEN we can TAKE MALARIA TO ZERO. This is NEW.

Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation gave the first ever PROGRAM OF SCALE to Malaria. RAM-Global is working with partners, local and international, to SCALE UP the Program of SCALE.

PARTNERS include RAM-Australia whose work has PROVEN we can TAKE MALARIA to ZERO, and KEEP IT AT ZERO. The several Global Grants gave us the TOOLS and TECHNIQUES we Rotarians SHARE globally.

PARTNERS in ZAMBIA and UGANDA – Malaria Partners International developed the Program of Scale that we NOW are SCALING UP IN ZAMBIA, and TAKING TO UGANDA. We hope to EXPAND the Program of Scale METHODS to reduce Malaria in Many other countries, from Tanzania to The Gambia, across all
Africa. Originally Rotarian Malaria Partners has RAM-Global representation on its Board. MPI ASKED RAM-Global to help in Uganda and LEAD in the Zambia Scale up Global Grant.

The Ambassador Program is the means by which RAM-Global encourages Rotarians, Rotaractors and Rotary Clubs to become members of our Rotary Action Group. Membership is the key to success in promoting and actioning work that can accelerate the elimination of malaria from the world.

The program is managed by Regional Ambassadors that seek and encourage participation in RAM-Global activities and events. The Regions are geographically based and related to the Rotary International zones, districts and clubs represented in the region.

WHY END MALARIA?

BECAUSE WE CAN WIN THIS FIGHT.

Malaria is one of oldest and deadliest diseases, devastating families, communities, and countries. Yet we have the tools to end malaria in a generation. This is why we are putting all our energy into  eradicating malaria from the world because we now know how to. Rotarians make a KEY difference.

  • In 2019, malaria claimed 409,000 lives and caused 229 million cases. 67% of deaths were in children under the age of 5 years.
  • Malaria accounts for half of missed days in African schools. Malaria may occur several times in children during the year in endemic countries. They cannot go to school and learn effectively, ultimately impacting their ability to earn a living.
  • Keeping children healthy enables parents to go to work and reduce the need to spend their wages on malaria treatments and health care.

Malaria keeps families and communities from prospering. By sustaining investments in ending malaria and improving health, we can unlock economic growth and human potential.

  • Malaria-free countries have 5x greater economic growth than countries with malaria.
  • A 10% decrease in malaria has been associated with a .3% rise in GDP.
  • Every $1 invested in malaria control in Africa returns $40 in economic growth, contributing to Africa’s prosperity and its prospects as a trading partner.

Malaria research is developing next generation tools and strategies to help fight Zika, dengue, and other mosquito-borne diseases and to prevent epidemics.

  • Surveillance and response systems can identify and track transmission of other fast-moving infectious diseases.
  • Rapid diagnostics and better treatments address the growing threat of resistance to anti-malarial drugs and insecticides.
  • Health care workers trained to diagnose and treat malaria also fight other diseases and can respond quickly to an emerging epidemic.
